Description
The E Low Pygmy is a black pearl in the whole collection of the RAV Vasts. What makes the E Low Pygmy so special compared to other scales? It has a really low mystic sound that reminds of a starry night in the middle of the African savannah. The sound of the E Low Pygmy is much deeper than of the other RAV’s so it even may sound like a completely different instrument. The tongues are tuned in notes of 2nd, 3rd and 4th octave giving the musician a room for creating various compositions.
This scale will be a great choice for beginners and experienced musicians as well. This refers to both handpan players and non-percussionists who are searching for a new sound and are eager to try something new.
The E Low Pygmy provides a great opportunity to unlock the potential and challenge yourself to try something totally new. It’s a great instrument to enter a jam session, preferable of higher-end instruments like mandolin or ukulele.
The E Low Pygmy RAV Vast is a perfect scale for those who are looking for some new ultimate sound and would like to take a more resonant vibratory sort of instrument. This scale produces a really deep “bassy” sound that you are almost feeling in your chest while playing.
The E Low Pygmy scale is the only scale tuned in E in the RAV Vast collection, so it possesses a unique selection of notes from A2 to D4. Like all the other RAV Vasts, the notes have sympathetic resonance.
What scales go together with the E Low Pygmy? In RAV’s family the E Low Pygmy is a bigger brother of the G Pygmy which has a higher tone. If you want to accompany the E Low Pygmy with another RAV, choose the G Pygmy or the C Golden Gate Scale as the perfect matches.
What kind of music is better to perform with the E Low Pygmy? It suits perfectly for the cases when you need a lot of volume and resonance and the ability to pull people into what you are playing. Just like the G Pygmy, the scale works great to accompany a yoga or meditation session. It also works perfectly for solo performances.
Having pretty the same diameter as the handpan, the E Low Pygmy provides the same strong sound. The material the Vasts are made of and the special shape provides unbelievably long resonance to these steel tongue drums.
For whom this scale will work
For a beginner
The E Low Pygmy can be a good choice for inexperienced enthusiasts who enjoy the particular effect that the E Low Pygmy provides. It is a great drum for the meditative or spiritual, yoga or self-cognition practices, where you want people to get drawn into the sound.
The E Low Pygmy has a lot of space filled in with the sound for you thanks to its super durable sustain. So you do not even need to know how to create a solid composition, rather than to let the drum create the melody by itself. Play long-lasting discrete notes and you’ll get a perfect background noise for your yoga session. You can even simply repeat 2 or 3 notes, without any exact melody.
For a pro
At the same time, this RAV Vast drum can provide a lot to the pro-level players who have a musical background and who are ready to experiment with a new sound. An experienced musician can try using different techniques with the drum, however it will work better with meditative playing style. While comparing the E Low Pygmy VS the G Pygmy, the first one will work better for slower rhythms. If you want to record a meditation CD, E Low Pygmy will be a perfect choice. If you prefer a faster style of playing, G Pygmy will be better in this case.
The advanced musicians will love using the E Low Pygmy for creating musical compositions. It works as a perfect background for high-tuned instruments like violin as it will create a crazy contrast and fill in the cracks of whatever melody you are playing.
If you want to use the bass sound of the E Low Pygmy but for some reason you want to reduce the resonance longevity, you can use a fabric case that will reduce sustain a little. That will be useful if you prefer a brisk playing style.

I have had my E Low Pigmy for about a week now.
This is my first drum and I am really impressed with the quality of this as well as the deep resonating sound. Unfortunately the videos don't do the instrument justice. After watching some of the training tutorials, I feel like I'm definitely making some good progress with playing it. This definitely motivates me to continue to play it as often as possible. I would highly recommend anyone to purchase one. If I can play it, anyone can. |

I have my E pygmy rav for some weeks now.. It has been all that i had hoped for and still just getting better. A beautiful design, a stunning sound. Bit more heavy then expected, but steady. It does not fit together with all casual music for a jam, but it is really great for a space out and to discover what it does mix well with. Even though on itself it is an absolute pleasure of sounds. When you do not know what to do it is easy to get a great sound, but also when you get more skills there are still plenty of possibilities of using this instrument and enjoying new things and music coming out creating even more depth to it! I love the depth of sound in this specific pan. And also the rav vast in general has a lovely resonance. If you want to play together a lot with other more usual instruments maybe consider a more available tuning. For those who love playing by themselves this is especially relaxing! Good travel service.

We love the deep sonorous sound of the E Low Pygmy. It is great as an accompaniment for other vasts or other instruments. It’s great to just enjoy its lush long notes or to pound a low rhythm on. It shifts my mood or helps me get emotions out. It is soothing or rhythmic. Easy to play and enjoy.

Incredible sound! It is my second tongue drum. The first was a handcrafted tank drum that I took on trial. I liked the overall idea but my tank drum has a very muffled sound so I decided to take a really good drum with a good sound and stumbled across the E Low Pygmy RAV Vast. And oh my God! It sounds amazing! My tank drum can't hold a candle to the RAV Vast! The RAV’s sound is much more sonorous, melodious and louder! I regret I hadn’t taken it earlier instead of my tank drum that I’ve almost abandoned now. I like that I can create some good melodies without even delving too much into the process itself. I am a massagist and at the end of each session, my clients stay for 10-15 in some kind of Shavasana. I play the RAV Vast for them while they are relaxing and my clients say they get a deeper relaxation now! I definitely highly recommend it, especially if you are a practitioner like me. |
