RAV Vast F Astronaut scale is the first instrument in RAV history that we created not alone. We developed it in collaboration with Kabeção, a Portuguese musician. After composing his famous composition, entitled Astronaut, he reached out to us with a wish to produce an instrument having the same vibe. We were inspired by the idea and the limitless power of space.
F Astronaut scale has a dreamy and mystical voice. Regardless of the fact that the sound of the F Astronaut scale resembles F Pygmy, it has its inimitable atmosphere. It is suitable both for beginners and advanced-level musicians who want to lose gravity and travel across universes. Besides, it pairs great with string, key or wind instruments as well as with other pans.

Have you ever dreamt of space travel – seeing planet Earth as a tiny ball and floating above all the human issues? We have done that in our dreams and while listening to Kabeção’s composition ‘Astronaut’ played on a pan. That is why we were thrilled when he proposed to produce a RAV Vast with a similar mood. “My instrument has sent me to space many times. So I wanted others to feel it too. That is when I remembered about the RAV Team and offered to collaborate!” – says the musician.
RAV Vast F Astronaut is a unique instrument. Not only because it is the first scale that we have created in collaboration with a musician but due to its timbre. F Astronaut’s sound is mysterious but at the same time tranquil and soothing. It makes you dream of impossible things! Kabeção confesses – “With my feet on the ground, I imagine myself in outer space. Almost touching the shiny stars, I travel from one universe to another and never stop being amazed”.
RAV Vast F Astronaut has nine steel tongues. This minor rather than major scale is built around the central Ding is F2. The rest note progression is tuned in 3rd and 4th octaves. There are two halftones: G#3 and D#4. The sustain is quite long, which makes the instrument perfect for a slow style of playing. Percussive way of playing might be challenging, but possible. The note layout of RAV Vast F Astronaut resembles F Pygmy, which makes them a perfect duet.
For whom this drum will work
F Astronaut is a beginner-friendly scale, so one does not need any musical background or knowledge – just the desire to acquire the instrument. There are just two halftones which means there are no chances that your melody will go wrong. Anything you play will sound harmonic and mesmerizing.
Seasoned musicians can also find this scale attractive. It has an inimitable sound with a particular dreamy mood. Thus, playing solo brings a unique delight. F Astronaut has a good sustain yet is excellent for percussive work. This scale will become your ideal tool for composing experiments.
