G Pygmy RAV Vast will enchant you with its deep and mystical sound. Severe primaeval nature inspired us to create this scale. There is another RAV Vast Pygmy scale drum – E Low Pygmy RAV Vast. These tongue drums and the F Pygmy RAV Pan create a perfect trio in a truly beloved handpan/hang drum tuning.
This scale is a great choice to become your first RAV drum, especially if you are looking for a darker sound to create a mysterious mood. Advanced players will enjoy the opportunity to choose between the major and minor feel and create highly contrasting compositions.

We ship around the world. Standard DHL shipping is 11-15 days. If you want to receive the instrument faster, you can choose DHL Express (8-11days). Delivery time depends on the destination country.
Waiting time
If tuning is not in stock, the waiting time will be 2-5 weeks long after placing the order.

The G Pygmy is a mysterious scale. The melodies composed with the G Pygmy are full of heavy rainy clouds and the smell of ozone before a storm. This RAV drum is made of 1.5 mm special steel that provides a deep acoustic sound with a great number of harmonious overtones to this musical instrument.
The Pygmy scale has a very nice-sounding chord progression that is highly popular among handpan music players. Just like the B Celtic, the G Pygmy is a pentatonic instrument. Nevertheless, the G Pygmy RAV drum has a different and very unique flavour. It’s initially tuned in G minor. However, you can also get some other scales - Bb Major, G Phrygian, Bb Mixolydian – if you switch the keynote and change the note progression slightly. In addition, this scale has a variety of chords available to it.
The bassy Ding is tuned in G2, and the rest of the tongues are tuned in the 3rd and 4th octaves. The G Pygmy has only one halftone (D3-D#3) and is a very harmonious scale. The fields above the steel tongues are well-tuned, and at the same time, there’s not too much noise of your fingers playing. The sound is still warm and thick.
For a rav drum G Pygmy is very versatile. It is sometimes called a “day-and-night” scale. It has both major and minor tones and can create two distant moods. The higher notes provide a sunny diurnal feel, while the lower notes bring in the nocturnal dramatic and meditative sound. You can switch between these two moods and create stunningly sophisticated and contrasting compositions. The G Pygmy tongue drum is great for both slow and fast playing. That’s what makes it multifaceted.
For whom this scale will work
Being one of the most popular RAV Vast scales, the G Pygmy has a lot to offer for both beginners and advanced players. If you choose the G Pygmy to be your first tongue drum, you’ll never have a chance to fail in playing. Like the B Celtic Minor, it’s a wonderful scale to start your RAV journey and quickly adapt to right away. You can experiment with melodies based on moving a single note and then try to fill them in with some percussive elements, slowly moving forward to adding chord progressions – dyads and triads. And at the same time, the G Pygmy is perfect for advanced creations and making more complicated compositions throughout your growing abilities.
Pygmy scale lovers will appreciate their favorite scale retranslated by the amazing RAV tongue drum. If you choose between the E Low and G Pygmy scales, note that the E Low Pygmy has a shallow sound, which makes outdoor playing and recording more challenging (you can compare these two scales in our virtual player). On the other hand, the G Pygmy RAV Vast has a higher voice and has an incredible acoustic potential. Thanks to its minor sound, it will become a perfect tool for meditation, which helps you get deeper into a particular state of mind.

From Russia send to my Island in the South Pacific and through customs in under 3 weeks..... in Covid times. Very impressive. Thank you for this achievement ! The packaging was impressive as well. It had could be shot in a rocket to Mars and would not have had a scratch. On the other hand, many people try to avoid to produce to much rubbish in these days. Our planet is suffering. And this was packed with a ton of stuff. Made me a bit sad. But I wanted this drum and I wanted it to arrive unharmed. I may should not expect that Aladdin on a flying carpet would deliver it from his hands. Instead it made its way in Airplanes from Russia to Germany, from Germany to England, being moved within England, then to the U.S. and being transported around there before it was finally flown to Australia and from there to my Island. And all this in a ton of wrapping. What will ya do ? It had to be. May the planet forgive me. The drum itself is from the first look and touch just an beautiful object. An eye catcher. So well crafted, such a beauty. And it gets even better when you start to play it. I'm no musician. I thought this instrument could finally let me play some music without learning. Just intuitive playing. And I was right. You can do exactly that. Depending on your mood and your creativity, different sounds and melodies are produced. Different areas on the drum have different sounds and if somebody is willing one could learn at least 20 ways of playing this instrument. Little kids can find an easy access to sound and music through this instrument as well. It is very relaxing and absolutely intuitive. I can only recommend it. A little downside is that I have to care for it as well. As I live in a humid area of the world, I need to rub it with oil once or twice a week. I learned this only when reading the instructions. I would have liked to know that earlier. No worry, I will take care as it is a wonderful peace of hand-craft which makes me happy :) For the price tag I have to say that it is an investment. Around 650-700 USD plus shipping plus taxes, that is a lot of cash. I recommend warmly not to be in a hurry but wait for a special. I got the feeling there is all the time one offer coming and going for every occasion of the year. While I'm writing this, the offer is -15% and half on DHL/EMS shipping. That is a better deal then I had. The deal in the moment would have saved me another 70 USD. So again, do not be in a hurry. Take your time if you are interested to buy. I did not bought any of the accessories because I think they are overpriced. So may as well the instrument itself but I do not regret my decision. I love my drum and it makes me happy. The work involved is made by very dedicated people. From the sellers, to the shipping department, the builders of the instruments....all very dedicated people. I have 2 two tongue drums but you cannot compare with a Rav Vast !! The instrument is beautiful, the sound is truly amazing (G Pygmy). The team is great. The transport packaging is really safe. Really happy to get mine !! Thanks to you ! J’ai 2 tongue drums mais c’est incomparable avec un Rav Vast !! L’instrument est magnifique, le son est hallucinant (G Pygmy). L’équipe est super. I was a little bit scared that during this emergency the delivery was going to be on delay. However the service has been successfully guaranteed in 5 days. What about the Rav Vast? Simply sublime. Amazing scale! I was choosing between the G Pygmy and the E Low Pygmy (I am just a fan of Pygmy note progression) and it was a really hard choice! Both instruments are so great! I was looking for some deep moody sound and these two scales are both like this. At the end, I decided to choose the G Pygmy because its sound is not as heavy as the E Low’s one (this one is really a Darth Vader but in a good way). The G Pygmy is also easier to deal with and not fizzle out (and I am not a pro). So I got a great instrument with the help of which I can prove to anyone that composing melodies is really achievable without a thorough knowledge of music theory! |

Until very recently, I learned about the existence of handpans and Rav Vast instruments. When I heard the G pygmy, it really resonated with me. The G pygmy is wonderful sounding scale, it is soothing, uplifting and spiritual all in one. The Rav Vast is a fantastic, incredibly beautiful instrument. It is so perfectly crafted and so dynamic in the sound, even the slightest touch transports you to another place. There are so many different techniques that you can use to bring your playing alive..fingers, hands, fingernails, mallets, brushes, knuckles, I use a mix of all. I am mostly a guitarist and really not much of a drummer but you don't have to be. I have had the G pygmy for only about1 month and I am so impressed. I am already enjoying myself making music on my Rav. The customer service and Rav website is top notch. I would love to buy another Rav in the Future, worth every penny. I highly recommend getting a Rav Vast. Follow your heart and the Rav that resonates with you.

Hi! The G Pygmy RAV has been such a joy to play. The RAV in general is a great instrument for everyone as it sounds great for beginners and invites new rhythms for an experienced percussionist. I find this tuning works well with other instruments and have been finding fun chord combinations on my guitar with a capo on the 3rd fret. As a drummer it’s showing me new rhythms with my hands based on the melodies my ear wants to hear. My girlfriend is just beginning and loves learning on it. We also facilitate breathwork/meditation together and find this tuning to create the perfect atmosphere for a peaceful session.
I really recommend this tuning for just about anyone looking to get their journey with a RAV started. Couldn’t be happier! Thank You! |
