Q: With what were you inspired to create the scale?
A: When creating this scale, I was inspired by my Yishama Low F2 Astronaut. I dreamed of having an instrument that could make groovy bass lines and create the space for others to shine. So this lower voice came to life together with Yishama. In some explorations and thoughts, I realized that the same scale could fit easily on a RAV, and after some conversations with RAV Labs, boom!... magic happened! That is how the RAV Drum F2 Astronaut was born!
Q: How can you describe the sound? What mood does it create?
A: While playing the scale, I feel the space between the notes. The nature of the sound is rather grounded because of its low voice, but at the same time, it is quite joyful and dreamy. It's the right instrument to take a deep dive inside.
Q: What pictures does it create in mind? Does it resemble something?
A: It sends me directly to space, without many thoughts. It always reminds me of an astronaut floating in the vast universe, and honestly, it tastes fantastic to be there.
Q: Can you describe the instrument from a technical point of view?
A: The Pygmy scale is derived and inspired by African tribes. It's an F minor pentatonic scale.
Q: Is it suitable for beginners or only professionals?
A: Suitable for any level. The most important thing is to have fun playing it.
Q: Can it be paired with other instruments, or is it for a solo player?
A: Depends on what the player is looking for. You can easily play it solo, or create a setup with one or more chromatic instruments to get more colors into your music. I actually love to play RAV Vast F Astronaut together with my Yishama. They are tuned to the same scale. However, they have different timbres with the possibility to sound bigger and broader. Many interesting combinations are possible with an open mind to explore sound and silence.
