Description
Playing the B Celtic Minor is like wandering around the lush sacred groves after the April shower looking for the four-leaf clover. You can hear the notes of Greensleeves while playing this scale. It recreates the traditions of Celtic rhythms that you still can hear in English folk music and old Irish ballades.
The B Celtic Minor has a romantic and slightly melancholic minor voice. It produces a calm and peaceful sound and is really easy to play. This is the scale you can’t really go wrong with as it’s very harmonious.
The B Celtic Minor will become a perfect choice for beginners as it is easy to handle and learn various patterns. It also works perfectly for a fast-playing style. The B Celtic Minor pairs perfectly a good bunch of RAV drums and other instruments, so it’s gonna be a good choice for a pro to take part in jam sessions.
Ethereal, soothing and calming – that’s how the B Celtic Minor sounds like. If you are a fan of relaxed melancholic melodies, the B Celtic is just what you need (it’s also one of the favourite scales of the RAV brand creator – Andrey Remyannikov).
The B Celtic is a hexatonic variation of classic B Minor scale without the 6th note - G. The notes of the B Celtic Minor are tuned in 2nd, 3rd and 4th octave. You can find the same set of notes repeated in two stacked octaves. The central B has an octave pair – the 4th note on the scale (the second and third notes are paired as well). The adjacent tongues made of 2 mm special steel produce intervals in thirds (either minor or major) creating many harmonious dyads and chords. There are two adjacent F# and A notes that create a minor chord. If you add C#, you’ll get an F♯ minor triad. With the B Celtic Minor you can also play a B minor chord (tapping D, F# and B), A major chord (playing A, C♯, and E), D major chord (D, F♯ and A). You can try various progressions, loop them and find the ones you like the best (and it will be a hard thing to do as they all sound marvellous).
The B Celtic has a good bunch of relative scales in the RAV family. The B Celtic Double Ding RAV Vast replicates the notes of the B Celtic except the extra bass note on the Ding tuned in A. How to choose between these two scales. The Double Ding will be great for those who are interested in learning techniques. If you take the B Celtic Double Ding scale as a beginner today, the scale will have a lot to provide you tomorrow when you evolve as a musician. The B Celtic Minor will be a good choice if you want to play melodious songs right here, right now without delving into chords.
If you are choosing between these two scales, keep in mind that the Double Ding is just a little bit more complicated to play. So if you are a beginner, you’d better start with the B Minor scale and then move on to the Double Ding.
The D Celtic RAV Vast is relative to the B Celtic as well, but the overall voice of the instrument is higher. There’s also the B Celtic Minor among the RAV Pans. The drums have the same range of notes, however, these are two different musical instruments (tongue drum and handpan), so the same notes will sound totally different (check their online sound samples to compare). Still these two instruments create a wonderful duet (as the RAV Pans were designed to sound harmoniously with the RAV Vasts).
For whom this scale will work
The B Celtic is a great scale if you are just starting out. But the point that the B Celtic Minor works well for beginners doesn’t mean it has nothing to propose for sophisticated players. There are very few notes that sound dissonant (and only one halftone (C#4-D4) but it’s not that prominent). For beginners it means ease to learn as you literally can’t go wrong in the melody you are creating. For the seasoned players it means you can practice fast playing and improvisation. The unique heartwarming sound of the scale makes the B Celtic Minor a good instrument for meditation.
The B Celtic is just perfect for playing with other musicians, especially if they are familiar with pentatonic scales (and most of them are). With the B Celtic you can transpose the song up to a beat using the chords and that will help a lot when playing together with a guitar or keyboard player. The B Celtic Minor also works great with flutes, especially those in the keys of B minor and F# minor.
What about pairing with the RAVs? This steel tongue drum will create a perfect harmonious duet with the B Celtic Double Ding, B Kurd, B RUS and the D Major.

We bought two of these after falling in love with the sound during sound healing sessions run at our yoga centre by a friend. I made a stand out of an old drum base that just fits underneath snugly and is very stable. Love the fact it plays in A Major and B minor and the pentatonic scales are both there over three octaves! Team at RAV Vast are the best - responsive, encouraging and generous. Highly recommend this RAV Vast model and the purchasing process. With COVID, ordinary postal delays are inevitable so well worth the few extra dollars to ship via DHL Express.

Hi, I'm a Guitarist and I play a lot of other instruments and I'm always looking for instruments with which you can't go wrong... But the main thing, I was looking for the right, real, special instrument for the woman I love. She plays a little bit guitar, a little bit djembe but there's always a little bit of stress in her mind, when she plays the guitar. Because you can always make a mistake, can play false tones ... And I tried so much also with open tuning and much more, but there is always a bit of a feeling, that it's not so easy to play a instrument. And then, at a birthday celebration of a very good friend, there was this RAV Vast Drum. My girl was the whole evening totally lost in the space of the RAV. So next day I came to the wonderful, beautiful webpage of ravvast and were stunning about the virtual player, which sounds with my speakers exactly like the real RAV drum. The support, everything was so perfect and friendly, wonderful Videos, I had immediately the feeling of "coming home". So I checked the tuning and ordered the RAVVAST, and then I was a little bit shaky... RAV from Russia?? Such a long way. Could this work? But there was no question open. The guys packed it and gave it free for shipping in NO TIME and I was able to track the parcel. There was nothing I had to worry about. The moment, the big parcel came to my house was like christmas and new year together. (It was the 31.12:) Perfect packing, so nothing can really happen to the RAV in this parcel. The RAV was so perfect tuned and it gives so much pleasure, so much joy to everybody who plays but also the people around who listen. The sound goes deep into the mind and body, into your heart (if you like). I can't compare with any other instrument. So now we play a lot together, I tuned my Guitar in the scale of the RAV B Celtic minor and I love this tuning. And yesterday we played four people together and we had the RAV, Guitars, Shruti Box, Voices, Trombone, Double Bass, Djembes... and had a lot of fun and touching moments together, most of the time in the Scale of the RAV, but it's also compatible with some other chords ...
So, the story goes on and on. The sound of the RAV with my guitar is so wonderful, they sound so great together like our voices. My story of the RAV is a Lovestory ... Thank you so much RAVVAST-Team |

Words cannot describe how I felt the moment I first heard this instrument almost 2 years ago. I always knew I was going to end up purchasing it. Fast forward to December of 2020 and I was finally able to realize the dream of owning it and honestly it is crazy how much better it is in person than in the already impressive videos of people playing it. It calms and centers me in a way I can't explain yet makes me feel like I'm in a magical forest surrounded by all sorts of critters and faeries. I am eternally grateful for how much this has changed my life for the better and also I'm very grateful for the RAV Vast Team that has been always very helpful through the process.

I love the sound of this drum! I tried out a bunch of different ones on this webpage. Love the virtual player were you can try out them all before buying. I knew straight away that I wanted something in a minor tone. I come from a heavy metal/punk background and I always want a little minor in my music. The B Celtic brought the right amount of mystic into the sound. Fantastic instrument and I recommend it to everyone. The customer support is amazing as well.

My first vast drum and I absolutely love the sound! Although I haven't compared to other scales, I'd say this is great for beginners, as it's easy to start creating beautiful music almost no matter how you hit the notes. I've had my drum for almost two months now and I'm extremely satisfied! The blue coating on the new drums protects the drum really well from humidity and suchlike and the drum itself looks like a piece of art! For anyone practicing mindfulness, this is a must have - it's so easy to be present and focused when playing and the sound has a really calming effect. Many thanks for a great product and service! Already looking to buy my second drum.

The B Celtic minor sounds awesome. If you strike it hard it will resonate for a longer time and the "ding" is louder. If you strike it slow it will relax the whole room :) . I need to mention this is my first RAV and also that I am a beginner in music - I do not know how to play but I can still make relaxing sounds. The steel is of good quality and the packaging is awesome - it looks like it would still be intact after a 2 story drop so do not worry about transport damage. The small tongues are harder to make them resonate and the sound is not sustained as long as the center note for example ( because the vibration is attenuated faster ) but this is to be expected, I believe.
If this is your first instrument please be aware of the actual size of it :) I was quite surprised of the size and weight. All in all the sound is beautiful and I would recommend as a first RAV |

I would like to thank the rav team for the grat work they are doing. Mine B Celtic Minor arrived in 5 days after it was purchased. Rugged package, no way to harm the drum in any way during transportation.
The drum itself looks amazing. The sound is beautiful. The whole thing screams to be played. |

I’ve picked up this scale for my sound healing studio. People come to relax, unwind and heal their mind and bodies. I like the B Celtic because I can easily create some simple patterns that take the people instantly into a meditative state. The B Celtic is unbelievably harmonious! I often have a few patterns ready to involve into my session, but I usually just let the drum lead me through and new grooves are being created just at the moment of playing. I am looking at the participants and understand what they actually need at the current moment - whether I should provide them a more happy and uplifting mood or give them more relaxation and tranquility. And I can do it both with the same RAV B Celtic Minor! Incredible instrument! I sometimes combine it with the singing bowls or tuning forks, but recently I started to think the RAV’s sound is good enough as it is and do not even need any accompaniment. I am totally in love with the sound and my clients love it too! RAV also has the B Celtic Minor handpan - maybe will take it as my next drum! |
