Description
Playing the B Celtic Minor is like wandering around the lush sacred groves after the April shower looking for the four-leaf clover. You can hear the notes of Greensleeves while playing this scale. It recreates the traditions of Celtic rhythms that you still can hear in English folk music and old Irish ballades.
The B Celtic Minor has a romantic and slightly melancholic minor voice. It produces a calm and peaceful sound and is really easy to play. This is the scale you can’t really go wrong with as it’s very harmonious.
The B Celtic Minor will become a perfect choice for beginners as it is easy to handle and learn various patterns. It also works perfectly for a fast-playing style. The B Celtic Minor pairs perfectly a good bunch of RAV drums and other instruments, so it’s gonna be a good choice for a pro to take part in jam sessions.
Ethereal, soothing and calming – that’s how the B Celtic Minor sounds like. If you are a fan of relaxed melancholic melodies, the B Celtic is just what you need (it’s also one of the favourite scales of the RAV brand creator – Andrey Remyannikov).
The B Celtic is a hexatonic variation of classic B Minor scale without the 6th note - G. The notes of the B Celtic Minor are tuned in 2nd, 3rd and 4th octave. You can find the same set of notes repeated in two stacked octaves. The central B has an octave pair – the 4th note on the scale (the second and third notes are paired as well). The adjacent tongues made of 2 mm special steel produce intervals in thirds (either minor or major) creating many harmonious dyads and chords. There are two adjacent F# and A notes that create a minor chord. If you add C#, you’ll get an F♯ minor triad. With the B Celtic Minor you can also play a B minor chord (tapping D, F# and B), A major chord (playing A, C♯, and E), D major chord (D, F♯ and A). You can try various progressions, loop them and find the ones you like the best (and it will be a hard thing to do as they all sound marvellous).
The B Celtic has a good bunch of relative scales in the RAV family. The B Celtic Double Ding RAV Vast replicates the notes of the B Celtic except the extra bass note on the Ding tuned in A. How to choose between these two scales. The Double Ding will be great for those who are interested in learning techniques. If you take the B Celtic Double Ding scale as a beginner today, the scale will have a lot to provide you tomorrow when you evolve as a musician. The B Celtic Minor will be a good choice if you want to play melodious songs right here, right now without delving into chords.
If you are choosing between these two scales, keep in mind that the Double Ding is just a little bit more complicated to play. So if you are a beginner, you’d better start with the B Minor scale and then move on to the Double Ding.
The D Celtic RAV Vast is relative to the B Celtic as well, but the overall voice of the instrument is higher. There’s also the B Celtic Minor among the RAV Pans. The drums have the same range of notes, however, these are two different musical instruments (tongue drum and handpan), so the same notes will sound totally different (check their online sound samples to compare). Still these two instruments create a wonderful duet (as the RAV Pans were designed to sound harmoniously with the RAV Vasts).
For whom this scale will work
The B Celtic is a great scale if you are just starting out. But the point that the B Celtic Minor works well for beginners doesn’t mean it has nothing to propose for sophisticated players. There are very few notes that sound dissonant (and only one halftone (C#4-D4) but it’s not that prominent). For beginners it means ease to learn as you literally can’t go wrong in the melody you are creating. For the seasoned players it means you can practice fast playing and improvisation. The unique heartwarming sound of the scale makes the B Celtic Minor a good instrument for meditation.
The B Celtic is just perfect for playing with other musicians, especially if they are familiar with pentatonic scales (and most of them are). With the B Celtic you can transpose the song up to a beat using the chords and that will help a lot when playing together with a guitar or keyboard player. The B Celtic Minor also works great with flutes, especially those in the keys of B minor and F# minor.
What about pairing with the RAVs? This steel tongue drum will create a perfect harmonious duet with the B Celtic Double Ding, B Kurd, B RUS and the D Major.

I bought my first ravvast a year ago, and since then I ended up owning 4 of them. I am really happy with the profecional, and kind communication with the team. Helping me to choose the right drum and fast delivery. B Celtic Minor is my 4th ravvast I decided to buy after owning other B scale drums. It has really heartwarming sound and I love the Celtic scale. I play Sound Baths in Ireland and use it for meditation and concerts. It goes really well with B Integral we have. (although would also sound also great with B Rus which wold be our next choise )The new version with a golden rim is beautiful. The sound is slightly more methalic and shorter then our other ravvasts from the older versions, but we also love it. I think this one is definitely so far my favorite one. We love the fact that we can play together now. Makes such a differance. Our clients just love ravvasts. It is very relaxing to wake up after the session to their sounds.

This instrument is nothing short of "magical." It's beautiful in both appearance and in sound. Anywhere I've played it, just hearing it makes people want one. I love playing mine along with my Native American-style flutes. Works great with flutes in the keys of B minor and F# minor especially. Buy one, you won't regret it.

I am the proud owner of two Rav drums and the celtic B minor shall be my 3rd😊
I am a sound therapist based in Ireland and was the first in the south east to use the Rav in my sound baths. People are intrigued and in love with the Rav sound. Some ask me what stringed instrument I am playing, others think it is a harp. They cannot believe when they see it is one of my Ravs I cannot recommend this drum enough. They have captured my soul xx and those of others. |

The customer service from the Rav Vast staff is amazing- and my Drum was shipped very quickly and reached me safely in Australia, the drum was very well packaged and protected and arrived in perfect condition. The drum it's self is incredible the quality of craftsmanship is beautiful and the sound is so rich. For any other beginners out there that are on the fence- this instrument in this scale is very easy to learn- there are some wonderful youtube tutorials that will get you started!! Highly recommend this great company and this beautiful Rav scale :D |

This is so beautiful. It is a must to have in my opinion with the D MAJOR. They go SO well together. Both are amazing beautiful instruments. I just can't say enough about this company, the quality, the customer service and the sound. Thank you. I feel like pieces of Heaven have fallen like droplets in my home every time I play them. Blessings and more!

My first steel drum! What can I say, I am wordless but I should say something. It looks lovely, it reminds me of a starry night or the universe. The sound is amazing with a lot of possibilities, you can go as creative as you want in playing it, it's all up to you. The sustain on it is incredible, I sometimes enjoy just hitting one note and taking it all in, letting it vibrate until I stop hearing it, hoping I can hear just a bit more at the lower end. I often am heading somewhere in the house and as soon as I stop by the instrument I find myself playing it for a while, forgetting what I was going to actually do. I am not much of a spiritual person but it has something extra. I also play guitar, ukulele and a traditional wooden flute called kaval, common in the Balkans, I do not know if it is the novelty or the combination of notes on it but it certainly has something that the others do not. I assume it is also a very beginner friendly instrument.

I received my Rav Vast a few days ago. This is my very first drum. I love it ! It's such a pleasure to play with it and its sound is hypnotizing. Having zero background with that kind of instruments, I'm very pleased to be already able to play pretty good tunes. It's easy, intuitive, and exploring the scale occupies most of my days now. It has been shipped very quickly and the quality is perfect. Also, the team is very nice and they helped me with a lot of efficiency. Buy it ! You won't regret it.

What can I say? It has been great service from the Rav team from the start, from being able to play and try out the different keys on their website (which I think is invaluable) to the advice and service the team gave. The Rav arrived to the UK within 2 weeks, which was fantastic as I was so impatient to recieve it and boxed so carefully. Its such a lovely instrument and I have no musical background at all but within 2 weeks of following tutorials I feel I am making progress already. I also bought the bag for the Rav which is great quality and looks like it will last, as I had read reviews on other websites that the bags they had ordered were poor quality and fallen apart within days so I'm glad I chose to go with ravvast.com for the quality of both the drum and the bag. I really cannot recommend the team enough . I found the hardest part of the whole process actually making a decision on what key to buy it in as they all sound so lovely and beautiful!!! I am so happy with the B Celtic Minor but I'm sure this wont be the only Rav drum that I buy!!
